Seven great reasons to visit Dynamic Earth

We love a list! Who doesn’t? So we’ve put together seven great reasons to visit Dynamic Earth. The hardest part was stopping at seven…

1. We’re a five-star visitor attraction

First and foremost, Dynamic Earth is an exciting, fun and educational journey through time to witness the story of planet Earth. With interactive exhibits and state-of-the-art technology you will feel the heat of a bubbling volcano, face the chill of polar ice and fly across the globe to find out more about life on our little blue planet.

2. We’re home to the ShowDome

As if that wasn’t enough, we’re also home to Scotland’s only 360-degree full dome film theatre - the ShowDome. Your tour through Dynamic Earth will include a ShowDome experience - we run a variety of films throughout the year. This year our immersive and jaw-dropping experiences have included We Are Stars, Asteroid: Mission Extreme and Supervolcanoes. We’re also an Edinburgh Festival Fringe venue, and this year we hosted Sonic Vision in the Show Dome, a high-energy musical trip of a lifetime.

3. You can shop til you drop

Our Natural Selection shop is open to everyone - you don’t need a ticket for the attraction to visit. We’ve got lots of unusual gift ideas for all ages. From scientific experiments for the little Einsteins in your life, to fairtrade coffees and chocolate for your favourite foodies, we’ve got you covered for birthdays and special occasions. With Christmas approaching, we’ve got lots of stocking fillers that will make your job as Santa a whole lot easier. Check out the shop page to find out more.

4. We’re in a great spot

We’re situated at the bottom of the Royal Mile, within walking distance of so many other wonderful things to do in Edinburgh - from the Palace of Holyroodhouse to the Scottish Parliament and, if you’re feeling adventurous, Arthur’s Seat. Take a look at another of our blog articles 5 other places to visit in our neighbourhood to find out more about what else you can get up to in the Canongate and Holyrood area.

5. You can fuel up in our cafe

As we’ve mentioned, we’re close to Arthur’s Seat and, if you’re going to attempt a hike about that bad boy then you’ll definitely want to fuel up before or after! Visit our bright and welcoming Food Chain cafe, with views of Arthur’s Seat at the back and the Scottish Parliament and Salisbury Crags to the front. The cafe is open 10am-5pm for visitors and non-visitors. We serve Brodies fairtrade coffee and cakes, sandwiches and soup and, if you’re after something a little more substantial, hot meals between 12pm and 3pm. Family deals and takeout are also available. Have a look at our blog for more information.

6. You can make an ocean commotion in our soft play area

We have a soft play area at Dynamic Earth, located in our gift shop. Entry to Ocean Commotion is free with a Dynamic Earth ticket, but you can also visit without a ticket for just £2 per child. Rainy days are not a problem at the bottom of the ocean, so bring your little ones and let them explore and play in our sensory experience. The soft play area is suitable for kids up to 10, and is open daily from 10am-5pm. We do host parties here so it’s a good idea to check before your visit to make sure it’s available. More information here.

7. Scope us out for your next event

Did you know Dynamic Earth is also a conference and event venue? Yup! We host everything from weddings and parties to training days, awards events, board meetings and conferences. We have lots of options, including the Biosphere Suite downstairs and the Ozone Suite upstairs, with views of Salisbury Crags and the Scottish Parliament. There’s also the option to use the Stratosphere itself. We have a highly professional events team who can help you plan the perfect event in our unique location. Speak to a member of staff any time if you’d like to find out more, or take a look at our events pages.

So the question is, what reason have you got not to visit?! We look forward to welcoming you soon!
