Inspiring the scientists of the future

Next Post

We’re super excited about an inspiring experience we’ve got coming up this weekend - it’s a great opportunity for young people to meet scientists working in all sorts of exciting areas of Space and Earth Observation research across the country and beyond.

Dynamic Earth will host The Universe Is Your Oyster - Inspiring Scientists on Sunday 16th and Monday 17th October. We will host a series of exhibitors - ranging from universities to the UK Centre for Astrobiology, The Institute of Physics in Scotland, the Royal Scottish Geographical Society and many more.

Visitors can get their hands on some exciting kit, try out investigative work, be inspired by our visiting experts’ STEM stories and find out about the opportunities available to them if they study science at school and beyond.

This event is a great opportunity for young people to engage with ‘real scientists’ and find out more about the wide range of career options that science can offer.

From geologists to physicists, astrobiologists to space scientists - this event offers access to experts working in the most exciting fields of research, as well as the Skills Development Scotland team, who will be on hand to answer queries about study options and qualifications.

Also involved in The Universe Is Your Oyster is ESRI UK - the largest Geographical Information Systems (GIS) company in the world. Their stand will showcase how GIS affects our life and the planet every day - sat-nav, smartphone mapping, weather forecasts - and how it can be used for important research in the fields of climate change, habitat monitoring and tracking diseases.

The event, kindly supported by the UK Space Agency and the Edinburgh Geological Society, is open to the public from 10am-4pm on both Sunday and Monday. We look forward to meeting some of the scientists of tomorrow at this inspirational event.

The universe truly is your oyster.
