Discuss the effects of living with a dynamic Earth – violent volcanoes, devastating earthquakes and magnificent mountain ranges. During this workshop, your pupils will build up an integrated picture of the internal structure of the Earth and its moving plates through group discussions and interactive videos. In the final part of the workshop, teams of pupils adopt a pet rock and discover the characteristics of different volcanic rocks.
People, place and environment: I can describe the physical processes of a natural disaster and discuss its impact on people and the landscape.
Materials: Having explored the substances that make up Earth’s surface, I can compare some of their characteristics and uses.
Listening and Talking—Tools for listening and talking: When I engage with others, I can respond in ways appropriate to my role, show that I value others’ contributions and use these to build on thinking.
Finding and using information: I can select ideas and relevant information, organise these in an appropriate way for my purpose and use suitable vocabulary for my audience.
